Tasting Never C.M. Stunich

Tasting Never C.M. Stunich

Overview:

"Never Ross wants to be loved.
It's that simple, but it's not that easy."

Never is a girl with a broken soul who doesn't date nice guys and can't seem to go to bed at night without crying herself to sleep. She doesn't need any complications in her life, especially not when they're attached to a man that could be her emotional twin.

Ty McCabe can't stand Never the first time he meets her. He's aware that the feeling's mutual and the two don't think they'll ever see each other again, but when fate takes a hand and puts them both in the wrong place at the wrong time, Ty and Never form a tentative friendship that opens the door on their dark sides and shows them what it's like to live in the light.

"Sometimes, the only way to go forward, is to take a few, careful steps back."

Tasting Never is a surprising, uneasy story of wanting to be loved despite feeling that there is nothing that makes you lovable.

Never Ross is an interesting and quite flawed young woman. She has a gut wrenching secret that needs to come out. Her secret tortures her and she is broken, alone, scared and she buries it all in endless one night, meaningless sexual encounters. She abuses sex to bury her pain and to take away the feelings she has about being vulnerable and unlovable.

Then she meets Ty McCabe, who has his own skeletons in the closet. When he and Never meet, it is instant attraction but it is like two magnets with a force pushing and pulling each other. Ty McCabe is another tortured soul and finding one another helps them both learn that they can live beyond their secrets. Ty has his share of secrets and we get a glimpse into the darkness.

Circumstances change and they end up relying on each other and become friends who open up and share their darks secrets. This relationship allows them both to come out of the dark. Their story together is one of friendship, attraction and it is beautiful, painful, damaged and yet hopeful. They want to be better together.

Never’s story is a sad one. Her inner monologues are heartbreaking. I sat there reading the book and feeling so torn for this character. The thoughts and feelings that she experiences, I think, are experience by a lot of young people in a similar stage of life and that is what will connect her with readers.

Tasting Never is a story of healing, and it’s beautifully written.
