    Overview:

I simply do not have the words to describe how wonderful this book is. It’s a dramatic story but has wonderfully breath holding romantic moments, and it is so funny but has you in tears of sorrow over the distressing heartfelt moments.

Julie is off to start a new life but when her accommodation, well let’s just say it falls through, her only option is to stay with an old college friend of her mother’s. The family is less than ordinary and has many secrets causing an ever-growing rift between them all. Julie finds herself communicating with the older brother while trying to form a friendship with Celeste the younger sister.

It’s hard to talk about this book without giving away details and I really don’t want to do that, I will simply say that it is a fantastic book.

This book is fantastic with virtually zero flaws. I loved the story and the characters and the author's creative use of technology as a way to further enhance the plot. It's been a long time since I've read such a story where I was as emotionally invested in the characters and the outcome as I was intellectually. The characters are incredibly three-dimensional and I was rooting for them from the get-go (especially Celeste and Matt). And how refreshing to find an author who presumes the intelligence of her readers and isn't afraid to challenge them with some truly excellent word play and smart humour.

Julie, the heroine, is wonderful and incredibly sympathetic....and, I felt, an awesome role model for young women readers. She's not perfect but she isn't afraid to take risks and admit her flaws. She grows tremendously during the story and it's a pleasure to see how much she matures from start to finish.

Flat-Out Love  isn't just a tale of romance (but there's plenty of that), it's also a realistic portrait of a fractured family who are slowly, slowly emerging from a dark time and reconnecting with one another and themselves.
